Vic: Truckie jailed for nine years for killing four

The employer of a truck driver jailed yesterday over killing four people in a singlecrash may face criminal charges.

In sentencing Canberra man BRETT LEO FOSTER to nine-and-a-half years, Judge GRAEMEHICKS said the truckie had implicated his employer in possible breaches of work safety.

The judge says FOSTER'S statement is being considered by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

FOSTER was affected by cannabis and fatigue when he ignored road signs and ploughedinto a line of cars at roadworks on the Murray Valley Highway, 10 kilometres east of Yarrawonga,on October 15 last year.

The judge has told the Bendigo County Court that FOSTER had been under pressure froma new boss to meet deadlines and had been on the road for 17 of the 24 hours before thecrash.

But Judge HICKS says the crash was a deplorable crime.

He's set a minimum jail term of six-and-a-half years.
