Vic: International workshop to tackle organised crime
International crime experts will lead a Victoria Police workshop next week designed
to find new ways to fight organised crime in the state.
The event has been in the pipeline for more than 18 months.
It will bring together 75 academics, international crime experts and state and federal
agency representatives to debate further action to dismantle criminal organisations in
Victoria.
Detective Acting Superintendent RICHARD GRANT says the event is about solutions and
isn't a knee-jerk reaction to help improve the public perception of a police service plagued
by corruption and Melbourne's underworld war.
More than 25 people have been killed in the city's gangland war while 23 Victorian
police are facing corruption charges.
