NSW:L Plater in high speed police chase

SYDNEY, Aug 21 AAP - A 16-year-old learner driver has allegedly led police on a high
speed pursuit through southwest Sydney that ended with the car catching fire.

Police stopped the Holden Astra at Revesby about 1.15am (AEST) on Sunday after checks
revealed its registration had expired.

The 16-year-old boy driver was issued with a court attendance notice for a number of
traffic-related offences and his learner-driver permit was suspended on the spot.

But less than an hour later, police allegedly saw the same car being driven through Revesby.

The driver failed to stop and police gave chase, allegedly reaching speeds of up to 150km/h.

The pursuit ended when the car headed up the Hume Highway ramp and its engine caught fire.

The boy, from Auburn, was arrested and charged with several offences, including driving
on a suspended licence, reckless driving, speeding and driving an uninsured and unregistered
vehicle.

He was refused bail and will appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday.

Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the ramp to extinguish the blaze.

FED: We're worried about water, but millions do little about it

New research says three out of four Australians are worried by the nation's declining
fresh water stocks .. yet millions also admit to doing nothing to curb their household
use.

The survey by Roy Morgan shows more than 75 per cent of Australians rate themselves
as concerned or very concerned .. about our declining water levels.

Yet 1.5 million people say they're too busy to take steps to cut their water consumption.

Another 1.3 million say they simply don't care enough to save water.

The research also found 15 million Australians have no idea about how much water their
household uses every year.

FED:Company tax cut to cost $3.1bn:Greens

The Greens say the federal government's proposed cut to the corporations tax would
cost taxpayers $3.1 billion.

Greens MP ADAM BANDT says treasury documents show the planned one per cent cut in company
tax cut should not go ahead as it's another example of the government caving into big
companies.

Treasurer WAYNE SWAN has said the government would be making cuts to the next commonwealth
budget to be handed down on May 10.

The projected deficit for 2010/11 of $41.5 billion is expected to be worse following
a drop in revenue from natural disasters .. both here and abroad.

VIC: Woman arrested over petrol scam

VIC: Woman arrested over petrol scam

MELBOURNE, April 19 AAP - A woman who begged for petrol money in an ongoing scam where
she claimed she ran out of petrol while driving a critically ill patient to hospital has
been arrested by police.

The 39-year-old Fitzroy woman was apprehended about 2.30pm (AEST) on Friday after security
staff at St Vincent's Hospital in Fitzroy called police about a woman approaching people
for money in the precinct.

Sergeant Duncan Frame said radio reports last week had alerted police to the woman,
who was allegedly asking people for money outside St Vincent's Hospital, the Epworth Hospital
in Richmond, and around Little Bourke and Exhibition streets in central Melbourne.

There were also reports of the woman approaching people at the Victoria Market in Elizabeth
Street.

"If you've got a bit of a story attached to it you're more likely to appeal to people's
emotions," he told AAP.

The woman told police she had participated in the scam for about six months, but police
believe she may have been approaching victims for up to two years.

She was released while police investigate the matter.

In some cases, the woman is alleged to have carried a petrol can while approaching
victims for amounts up to $30.

The woman is described as about 165cm to 175cm, slim to medium build, long brown curly
hair, southern European and well-dressed.

Anyone who believes they may been approached by the woman is urged to call Sgt Frame
at the Melbourne divisional tasking unit on 03 9637 1135.

AAP General News (Australia)

Fed: Battlelines clearly drawn for Abbott

By Sandra O'Malley

CANBERRA, Dec 4 AAP - Tony Abbott has never shied away from a fight.

It's a skill he will need if the Liberal Party is to have any hope against the Rudd
government at the next election.

But aggression alone won't be enough for the job ahead of him.

Winning public support for the coalition will be important but so too will be unifying
a Liberal Party in which the gulf between the moderate and conservative wings seems insurmountable.

It will be a tough ask for an arch-conservative like Abbott, and his personal history
may not serve him well.

As a self-confessed member of John Howard's Praetorian Guard, Abbott is best known
for fighting battles.

He was a boxer in his youth, his recent tome on the future of the Liberal Party was
titled Battlelines and he's known as the "Mad Monk" - a reference to his time in the seminary.

Everything about him spells aggression.

So how will this staunch Catholic hard man bring together a party split on issues like
climate change and workplace relations?

The 52-year-old member for Warringah in northern Sydney claims he'll do it by being
"consultative and collegial".

"Political parties don't work when people announce what they are doing and expect everyone
else to follow," he told reporters during his first news conference as opposition leader.

"I will not be that kind of leader."

Two years ago, when Abbott first flirted with the idea of leading the Liberals, one
of his selling points, as he saw it, was his "people skills".

Anyone who knows Abbott - in even a cursory way - was amused.

Now he will need to dig deep into that arsenal to win over the half of the party that
wanted Malcolm Turnbull to remain leader.

He will also have to make amends with middle Australia, which only remembers him as
a right-wing trouble maker.

Although he's a complex individual, more broadly he's known for his deeply Catholic
views and opposition on issues such as abortion, voluntary euthanasia and the stem-cell
debate.

He sticks in the public memory for his battles.

There was his stoush with Nicola Roxon at the National Press Club during the 2007 election
campaign, where he swore at her after she needled him for being late.

More offensive to many was his slur against the late asbestos campaigner Bernie Banton
in 2007, when he questioned the purity of Banton's motives in delivering a petition to
the then health minister.

Admitting he had "stuffed up" in the past, Abbott on Tuesday sought absolution to start
afresh as leader.

"I probably should, I suppose, apologise now for all my errors of the past, and make
a clean breast of it if you like and ask the public to judge me from this point," he said.

He's taken on Pauline Hanson time and again - although he has had a more affectionate
relationship with another feisty redhead, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who has
shadowed him numerous times over the years.

During his 15 years in parliament, Abbott handled some of the most difficult issues
for John Howard, to whom he was always a loyal lieutenant.

He was a combative workplace relations minister and was left to pick up the pieces
in health when the system began to implode.

Throughout life he has shown himself to be a man of many talents.

Athlete, firefighter, lifesaver, trainee priest, journalist, author, Rhodes scholar,
to name a few.

He has the chutzpah to waltz around Parliament House in his cycling gear and appear
in a national broadsheet in his Speedos.

To make a fist of his next battle, Abbott will need to be many things, not least his
confident, conciliatory and pugnacious best.

Fed: New credit laws will push up cost of lending: banks

The Australian Bankers' Association's warned consumers will end up paying more for
a loan and wait longer for approval under heavy-handed new consumer credit laws.

ABA director IAN GILBERT says the new rules requiring lenders and brokers to be licensed
from November will mean more paperwork and assessment of loan applications and it could
push up the cost of lending.

But Mr GILBERT says the new rules will go a long way to eliminating predatory and unscrupulous
lending practices.

Credit unions and building societies are also critical of the new laws .. saying responsible
lenders will be penalised and buried in meaningless red tape.

SES Astra Inks Pact with Eurosat for Distribution of Astra2CONNECT in the UK

WIRELESS NEWS-December 20, 2008-SES Astra Inks Pact with Eurosat for Distribution of Astra2CONNECT in the UK (C)2008 10Meters - http:/ /www.10meters.com

SES Astra, a SES company, announced that it has signed a reseller agreement with the satellite equipment distributor Eurosat for the marketing and sales of its satellite based interactive broadband service Astra2Connect.
Eurosat will market the service under its brand name BeyonDSL in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland.

Eurosat, a developer and supplier of satellite TV and consumer electronics based in the United Kingdom, is targeting thousands of British households that are not able to access terrestrial DSL or cable networks and will offer download rates of up to 2Mbps.

Astra2Connect was launched in early 2007 and is now available in 11 countries throughout Europe. Marketed via wholesalers and internet service providers to the residential market, Astra's fully satellite-based solution for broadband access is a service that offers a highly reliable, always-on, two-way broadband internet access, including internet telephony, for flat service fees. The groups said the customer premises equipment - a modem and a satellite dish - is low cost and delivered with a tool for easy self- installation.

"Thanks to our agreement with Eurosat BeyonDSL, we have added another European country to our map for Astra2Connect," said Norbert Willems, Managing Director of Astra Broadband Services. "Even in countries with a high DSL penetration like the United Kingdom, there are still many regions without terrestrial broadband access. With download speeds of up to 2Mbps now available, Astra2Connect is a unique possibility for those households where terrestrial high- speed internet is not immediately available."

"Thousands of households in the UK and Northern Ireland are in terrestrial broadband black spots. That does not only affect rural areas, but also city locations including greater London," said Mike Locke, special projects manager at Eurosat. "Therefore, we are extremely happy that, with Astra2Connect, we are able to offer an easy, reliable and affordable solution for everyone."

What Australian newspapers say on Wednesday, April 9, 2008

AAP General News (Australia)
04-09-2008
What Australian newspapers say on Wednesday, April 9, 2008

SYDNEY, April 9 AAP - Tibet will not be a major item in Kevin Rudd's talks with Chinese
leaders on his first visit to Beijing as prime minister, The Australian says in its main
editorial today.

Mr Rudd has made Australia's position on Tibet clear - to encourage Chinese leaders
to hold direct talks with the Dalai Lama to explore a long-term solution.

"Overall, The Australian agrees with Mr Rudd's assessment that it is better to engage
and cajole than to push the Chinese leadership inward," the editorial says.

"Although Mr Rudd is expected to raise China's human rights record, Tibet will not
be a major item of business. The focus will be on our shared interest in fostering China's
stability and continued economic growth."

The editorial says the Tiananmen Square crackdown showed the Chinese government's ability
to shock everyone with the brutality of its response.

"Encouraging a deeper involvement in the rules-based international order is the sensible
way to make China lift its game on human rights."

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's China expertise could quickly look like a liability if
he cannot deliver on some of the diverse expectations of his visit to Beijing, says The
Australian Financial Review in today's main editorial.

This means letting the Chinese know they have badly handled the situation in Tibet
- but also letting Australian rights activists know that an Olympic boycott would not
achieve much in the way of liberalisation inside the country, the editorial says.

"Big-time bilateral visits generate many sweeping claims about outcomes, but Mr Rudd
would be better focused on fostering long-term engagement than producing a circus act
in Beijing this week," it says.

"For example, his predecessor won a big gas export deal but at a price so low that
no others followed for many years.

"Mr Rudd would therefore be better focused on keeping the free-trade negotiations alive
in order to allow companies to get on with doing business."

On Chinese investment, he should insist that Chinese government-owned companies are
transparent but not stand in the way of a new source of foreign capital, the paper says.

The two certainties of NSW politics are that there will be a Cabinet reshuffle by May
and John Della Bosca will not become premier, says Sydney's The Daily Telegraph in an
editorial today.

News that Premier Morris Iemma has approached former education minister Carmel Tebbutt
to return to the ministry confirms that he is about to "shuffle the deckchairs on the
Titanic", the paper says.

"The problem for Mr Iemma is that the three (ministers) who desperately need moving
- Small Business Minister Joe Tripodi, Health Minister Reba Meagher and DoCS Minister
Kevin Greene - are his mates.

"It is unlikely he would touch them as they are his mates."

Rumours that Mr Della Bosca will seek the leadership are "nonsense", the editorial
says, because no one believes he could lead Labor to power, he does not have caucus support
and the party would lose a by-election needed for Mr Della Bosca to join the lower house.

The full story of the alleged gang attack at Merrylands High School last Monday has
not been told, says The Sydney Morning Herald in today's main editorial.

Such an incident had clearly been expected for some time, the paper says, noting that
teachers and students responded quickly and effectively as they had been drilled to do.

"Why, for instance, are lockdown drills needed in a Sydney high school?" the editorial asks

"The children at the school had no doubt that most of the alleged attackers were of
Pacific Islander background. Is that a dreadful thing to acknowledge?"

Some youth workers and education experts speak of the events at Merrylands with "the
most extraordinary obfuscation" about the issue of ethnicity, the editorial says.

"There is no point pussyfooting around the issue..." it says. "If ethnic-based gang
activity is behind Monday's events, it is a key to understanding what happened and perhaps
reducing the likelihood it will be repeated."

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd faces a raft of contentious issues as he touches down in
China today, the main editorial in The Age newspaper says today.

A political storm over Tibet, human rights and the Olympics will "challenge all (Mr
Rudd's) diplomatic acumen" on the final leg of his world tour.

But the biggest challenge will come next week when Mr Rudd is joined in Beijing by
Climate Change Minister Penny Wong, Agriculture Minister Tony Burke and Trade Minister
Simon Crean, the editorial says.

"The economic scale of the topics for discussion is immense. Trade between the two
countries stands at about $50 billion," it says.

"China is Australia's largest trading partner, although Japan is still our largest
export market. The Australian economy is a major beneficiary of China's demand for resources
such as iron ore and coal."

Mr Rudd and his ministers must foster trade but also protect Australia's interest "from
a country relentlessly scooping up stakes" in industries such as the mining sector, the
editorial says.

Other challenges will be to revive negotiations towards a free-trade agreement, as
well as climate change and the situation in Tibet.

"The Prime Minister, it is to be hoped, will not feel constrained by the weight of
economic considerations to continue raising human rights issues."

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon and her advisers must win back the
trust of their officers, the main editorial in the Herald Sun newspaper says today.

The editorial follows a landmark survey of Victorian police by the newspaper.

"Perhaps the most disturbing message is that an astonishing 64 per cent of the 3,459
police officers who responded say they have considered resigning over the past 12 months,"

it says.

"Lack of resources and low morale were given as the main reasons and Chief Commissioner
Christine Nixon faces a personal crisis of confidence.

"Nearly 70 per cent of police officers surveyed believe she has done a bad or below average job."

The survey results and a mass meeting of police yesterday suggest Ms Nixon "must look
closely at the way she runs the force" and quell public disquiet about the state of the
force.

"Ms Nixon and her close advisers need to ask themselves if they need to do their jobs
differently. They must regain the trust of the officers they command and in doing so regain
the confidence of all Victorians."

Fed: Swan says inflation remain risk to the economy

SYDNEY, Dec 5 AAP - Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan says higher inflation remains a key
risk to the economy and the government will take every step to reduce pressure on prices.

Mr Swan said today's gross domestic product data for the September quarter showed the
Australian economy was growing strongly.

But it also reflected the severity of the drought and underscored the government's
commitment to strict fiscal discipline.

The September quarter national accounts showed gross domestic product (GDP) grew by

Fed: Anti-nuclear MP says ALP policy change 'not done deal'

By Sandra O'Malley

CANBERRA, April 22 AAP - Kevin Rudd will ask his party to overturn its 25-year opposition
to new Australian uranium mines at Labor's national conference but anti-nuclear champions
deny change is in the bag.

Uranium and industrial relations are shaping up as the two biggest challenges for Mr
Rudd during the three-day conference, which begins on Friday.

The new leader is a hit in the opinion polls but Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese
believes Mr Rudd won't necessarily get it all his own way at the conference.

Mr Albanese will be leading the push for Labor to retain its no new uranium mines policy,
once known as the three mines policy.

"I'll go all out to put forward the position which I think has the overwhelming support
of the Labor Party membership," he told the Nine Network.

"And in terms of electoral politics, I just think it is beyond belief to argue that
there are people out there ... who say 'Gee I'll change my vote to Labor if only they
change their policy on no new uranium mines.'

"I just think that's an absurd proposition."

West Australian Premier Alan Carpenter and Labor's environment spokesman Peter Garrett,
who ran as a candidate for the Nuclear Disarmament Party in 1984, are other high profile
ALP members who back the current policy.

But few expect Mr Rudd to be rolled on uranium and many suspect the numbers on the
conference floor are already fixed.

A loss to the leader would seriously damage his standing and Labor's chances at the
next election.

Mr Albanese, however, denies it's a done deal.

"I'll be seeking support for an amendment which says essentially that let's not put
the cart before the horse," he said.

"Before Labor considers any new uranium mines I think ... we need in place an effective
nuclear non-proliferation regime."

Industrial relations will be the other main headache for the ALP faithful next weekend,
with Labor seeking to strike a balance between the needs of business and union demands
in its policy.

Mr Rudd last week offered a taste of Labor's industrial strategy but is refusing to
say when exactly the full policy will be forthcoming.

Australian Council of Trade Unions boss Greg Combet is demanding Mr Rudd reveal the
detail of Labor's industrial relations policy at the conference.

However, Mr Rudd will only commit to releasing the policy "before the election".

The disagreement over timing comes days after Mr Rudd told Australian Manufacturing
Workers' Union boss Doug Cameron he needed to move into the 21st century on industrial
matters.

But the government claims any kind of tensions between Mr Rudd and the labour movement
is manufactured to make it appear the opposition leader is standing up to union bosses.

Qld: Bargain hunters urged to be wary on internet

BRISBANE, Dec 21 AAP - Christmas shoppers seeking last-minute bargains should be wary
when buying "internet only specials" that seem too good to be true, Queensland's Fair
Trading Minister Margaret Keech warned today.

The warning follows the discovery of a website advertising Playstations, XBoxes, plasma
screen TVs and other electronic goods at prices well below those found in shops.

It's alleged the company lures bargain-hunters with the low prices, but fails to send
the goods after they have been paid for.

"A number of New South Wales people have reported sending money for goods but not receiving
them," Ms Keech said.

Ms Keech said the company was now allegedly targeting Queenslanders, and has also been
accused of misleading advertising by providing suspect contact and trader details.

"It has also been alleged the company tried to scam newspapers into running large full-colour
advertisements with no intention of paying the account," she said.

Ms Keech said the Office of Fair Trading, which is investigating the company, and police
recently managed to stop ads from being run in at least one Queensland newspaper.

She urged people who suspect they may have been scammed to contact their banks immediately
to try to cancel the transaction.

She said they should also lodge a complaint with the Office of Fair Trading and police.

"If an offer seems too good to be true, then it probably is," Ms Keech said.

Products Already Accepted for Inclusion on

Multiple High-Volume Internet Shopping Sites

Interlabs, Inc., whole subsidiary of Summit National Consolidation Group, Inc. (SMNC.PK), announced today that it is in late stage negotiations with a major North American online shopping network to begin selling its Superwipes(TM) line of organic BioSolvant(R) consumer products on its Internet shopping sites. The company expects to finalize the online sales contract in the next few days.

"This is an important step for Interlabs and Summit National," says Mario Quenneville, President and CEO of Summit National Consolidation Group, Inc., and its Interlabs, Inc., subsidiary. "The company that we are negotiating with has a solid reputation for being very selective about the products they carry on their extensive network of online shopping sites. We have just gotten word that this network's review board has accepted our application for inclusion on their sites and it is now up to us to sign on and to begin selling our non-toxic Superwipes(TM) products to their expansive consumer base. We believe this will be a lucrative market for us and expect to close the deal within the next week."

Since being acquired earlier this year by Summit National, Interlabs has secured its first private label marketing agreement with the international nail and skin products company, Barielle Sales Corporation, has signed an exclusive manufacturing agreement with Concepts Marketing Solutions, has negotiated its first exclusive multi-million dollar distribution agreement with The Albadranha Group to sell its products in the United Arab Emirates and is also in the middle to late stages of several other large international distribution contracts.

Interlabs' products are already available under its own name or branded under the Barielle name in a growing number of retailers, including Bloomingdale's, Neiman-Marcus and Macy's as well as in regional and national drug chains, cosmetic specialty stores and salons. This latest deal would significantly widen the market for Summit National's growing line of organic consumer products. Summit National has also taken most of the necessary steps to fast track the company's admittance for listing on the OTC Bulletin Board.

Jack Nicklaus and Microsoft Corp. are Strategic Partners in Golfport

ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- At a news conference held today at the PGA Show in Orlando, the management team of Golfport, Inc., (http://www.golfport.com) introduced a comprehensive Internet-based service that 'connects the dots' between players, courses, and vendors. Golfport, which has as its strategic partners golf legend Jack Nicklaus and technology giant Microsoft Corporation, has created a new standard in golf communications and commerce. The company offers a total solution to golf courses that allows them to provide highly-personalized service to their players and to join the revolution of small businesses that now utilize the Internet for procurement and operational tools. This solution is delivered through Golfport's proprietary Golf Commerce Pipeline(TM).

Golfport has already started connecting key golf courses across the country to the Golf Commerce Pipeline(TM), leveraging a seasoned management team that is rich in both golf and technology. The management team includes CEO Mark Haugejorde, former president of Ticketmaster Golf; President and COO Kennon Grose, former general manager for Microsoft's Industry Services Group; Co-Founder and Chief Internet Officer Ed Pattermann, former president and CEO of GolfWeb; Jeff Bliss, Chief Marketing Officer; Tony Scott, Chief Technology Officer; and Steve Holmes, Chief Financial Officer.

In addition to the strong team and strategic partners Jack Nicklaus and Microsoft, Golfport has attracted a premier Board of Directors, including Mike Gunn, EVP of Marketing and Planning for American Airlines; Peter Boit, VP of E-Commerce for Microsoft; and Mike Durham, former President and CEO of Sabre.

"This is the wave of the future for the game of golf," remarked company spokesperson Jack Nicklaus. "I hope to make people aware of Golfport and the services it delivers, not only to the golfer, but to the club and manufacturers as well."

Each club's website features personalized content and services such as club newsletters, event calendars, golf news, weather, merchandise, e-mail, and stock quotes. A premium package for executives.(Features)

EXECUTIVE travel with a new slant is how Audi describes its super coupe, the A7 Sportback.

Long, lean and packed with techno wizardry, the model is also very much a niche product in that every car is being built to order - the estimate is 3,000 a year - giving it a shedload of exclusivity.

The name on the label may be Sportback but as a spacious four-seater with plenty of room for luggage it's realistically more of a grand tourer.

The A7 oozes quality from every pore, whether it be the power of the engines, development of the technology, appointment of the cabin or precision of the engineering. It cuts a dash in every department.

Audi fans have a choice of four engines - 2.8-litre FSI with 204ps and 3.0 TFSI with 300ps petrol plus a pair of 3.0 TDI diesels producing 204 or 245ps - and SE and S line trim grades.

Of the quartet only the front-wheel drive, lower power diesel doesn't feature Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system, instead using the company's multitronic automatic transmission as opposed to the quattro's seven-speed twin clutch S tronic box.

And while this model is the most economical in the line-up boasting an average 53.3mpg, it's the tested, higher powered, oil-burner that takes the biscuit.

Refined and well balanced, it shows terrific poise through bends, possesses a huge amount of grip and feels superbly engineered, while the car's sound insulation is also of high order.

For those who want to vary the driving experience there's the Audi Drive Select system with its Auto, Comfort and Dynamic modes, the latter of which substantially firms everything up.

Upmarket gadgetry is everywhere in the A7 Sportback, from a night vision camera and internet "on the go" to parallel parking. Problem is, the gizmos don't come cheap.

In fact you could buy another premium model just by speccing the car up with some very tempting extras.

The test car, in entry level SE grade, didn't come with Audi's most sophisticated options yet the likes of Milano leather upholstery at pounds 750, 19-inch alloys for pounds 990, ambient lighting (pounds 300), front seat ventilation (pounds 840) and MMI Navigation Plus at pounds 1,175 added another pounds 7,000 to the tab.

It did, however, have a smart phone link to the internet that turns the car into a wi-fi hotspot for passengers with laptops.

From a practicality viewpoint there's ample rear head and legroom for two tall passengers plus a long but shallow boot that can cope with a useful 535 litres of clobber.

Fold the rear seats down and the flat floor can cope with a couple of golf bags and trolleys.

Take in standard items like an electrically operated tailgate, LED daytime running lights, parking sensors and Bluetooth hands-free and it's a compelling premium package.

9/11 Books Re-Emerge as America Prepares to Commemorate 10th Anniversary.

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 08, 2011

As the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the U.S. draws near, the publishing industry is preparing for a re-emergent interest in post-9/11 books by American authors.

Pretend All Your Life (Permanent Press, 2010), the novel by Joseph Mackin, whose work The New Yorker has called "elegant," takes place in just six days in the eerie winter after the World Trade Center attacks. Dr. Richard Gallin is a successful Park Avenue plastic surgeon suddenly hard-pressed to hold on to his place in a post-9/11 world he hardly recognizes.

"The setting places Pretend All Your Life in the company of other post-9/11 meditations like Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Don DeLillo's Falling Man, and Spike Lee's 25th Hour. What sets Mackin's novel apart from these other titles, however, is its distance from the events. Mackin assesses the events and their fallout with a degree of intellectual clarity that's lacking in Safran Foer and emotional intensity that's missing in DeLillo. Pretend All Your Life presents the best of both worlds; it is as smart as it is heartfelt and thus, to my mind, the best reflection on post-9/11 America written to date. It is, in short, a powerful and moving book on what may well be the most difficult of subjects for Americans to ponder." -- Marc Schuster, Small Press Reviews*

"Not since Sherman Alexie's Indian Killera[bar]and Don DeLillo's Falling Man has an author so successfully used the 9/11 catastrophe as a narrative device for probing the good, the bad, and ugly of Manhattan." -- Michael Adelberg, New York Journal of Books

Joseph Mackin received an MA in Literature from New York University, and has studied writing at Yale and at the IEN in Barcelona, Spain. He was the original Internet editor of The Paris Review under the direction of George Plimpton.

M2 PRESSWIRE-May 4, 2011-: Scandinaviaa[euro](tm)s biggest shopping chain chooses WebProof.(C)1994-2011 M2 COMMUNICATIONS

RDATE:04052011

The Danish software WebProof.com won the order for the annual handling of 13,000 pamphlets at Scandinavia's largest shopping chain - ICA AB, with supermarkets in both Sweden and Norway.

WebProof in Roskilde has yet again proven that Danish IT, based on unique, innovative program development, can be a global player.

"As one of the established and biggest software providers in online proofing, we were invited to give suggestions on how WebProof would satisfy the detailed specification requirements that ICA had put forward, especially including requirements to security, up-time and speed. We must have shown this very well via online meetings and workshops" states Jan Adeltoft CEO at WebProof.com, and continues "I have great respect for the thoroughness shown by ICA, plus their ability to involve users and get their acceptance, prior to a decision being made. It is the biggest pamphlet-producer in Scandinavia for only one customer and security requirements are naturally very high. Therefore, we regard the order as a massive pat on the back for the great user-friendliness and security on which WebProof is based".

WebProof is an online proofing service, especially for graphics production. The software handles and automates approval processes of graphic documents, amongst others. As many people are involved in proofing approval, this means that WebProof typically reduces total production times by 25%. WebProof in addition includes a 3D Page-Flip, which means that users on the internet can flick-through offer pamphlets and print shopping lists, etc. WebProof offers solutions regardless of whether you are a 5-man advertising agency or a large global organisation of 10,000 employees, where WebProof supports XML integration for the majority of external systems, plus total automation with advanced hot-folder workflow and InDesign Server integration.

Annually, WebProof has more than 1/2 million logins in over 100 countries, and every year, more than 4 million pages are approved by internationally renowned clients including LEGO, DDB, Bang & Olufsen, Bauhaus, Pernod Ricard, Mecom/Edda Media, Aller Media, Jysk, Astellas, Silvan, Burda, Hummel, Berlingske Media etc.

WebProof was founded by there CTO in 2000, entrepreneur Jakob Vedel Adeltoft, now at only 32 years old his early adoption of the technology led to WebProof being one of the first that offered online proofing through ASP/SaaS. Jakob leads a global team of fifteen programming development staff, each team member is an expert in their own field providing a small highly specialised and focused team to deliver market leading products. WebProof has through organic growth, without investors, been able to develop itself from a small Danish IT company to an internationally recognised software company.

Seventeen of the affected jobs were full-time positions; the remaining were part-timers who typically worked fewer than 10 hours a week from home. Frontier told the workers Monday, and the cuts will take place over the next couple of months.

Explosion of Employee Bloggers Is Creating Both Opportunities and Headaches for Companies, Says Edelman-Intelliseek Study.

Nearly 70 Percent of Companies Have No Policies or Guidelines in Place for Employee Bloggers

CHICAGO and CINCINNATI, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A newly published white paper on blogs from Edelman, the world's largest independent public relations firm, and Intelliseek, provider of one of the Internet's leading blog portals, Talking From The Inside Out: The Rise of Employee Bloggers, examines the relationship between employees who blog and their employers by looking at the challenges and opportunities this phenomenon presents for companies and brands.

Among the study's key insights: * Nearly 70 percent of companies have no policies or guidelines in place for employee bloggers, which is a clear liability for both companies and bloggers themselves. * A recent Intelliseek study reveals that up to 9 percent of people posted to blogs (others or their own) to comment on or defend their employer. * Over a recent six-month period, blog postings with the phrase or derivative of "love my job" outnumbered those with "hate work" by about 2-to-1 and outnumbered those with "hate my boss" by about 4-to-1. * Employee blogs have helped enhance the reputation of employers in many instances (as in the cases of Microsoft, Sun Microsystems and Stonyfield Farms) but have also hurt reputations in the case of several high-profile firings (as in the cases of Google, Delta Air Lines, Waterstone's and Friendster).

The paper is available for download at both companies' web sites (http://www.edelman.com/ and http://www.intelliseek.com/),

"We have clear evidence that consumers and other important stakeholders make decisions about products and brands based largely on what a company's employees say about them," said Christopher Hannegan Senior Vice President and Director of Edelman's Employee Engagement Practice. "Now blogs provide these same employees with access to a mass audience as never before. So companies need to understand that two powerful forces are beginning to converge in way that will have a direct and growing impact on their business."

The study examines the various approaches companies are taking toward employee blogs, including as an internal knowledge management tool. For instance, Google uses its own blogging product, Blogger.com (http://www.blogger.com/) to create and manage several hundred internal blogs. Many are used for project collaboration, while others are used for social interaction at work. Apple Computer has published strict employee blogger guidelines that forbid comment on anything related to Apple.

Talking From The Inside Out also includes an analysis of several CEO blogs, examples of actual employee blogging guidelines and a "Get Smart" vocabulary guide for all things related to blogging and new media.

"Employees can be critical builders of brand equity or chronic destroyers of it, and blogs speed up that process rapidly," said Pete Blackshaw, Intelliseek's CMO and 2004 co-founder of the Word of Mouth Marketing Association. "Corporate communications professionals and senior executives need to come to grips with this new reality and learn to operate in this fast- changing blog environment."

Talking From The Inside Out is the second in a series of white papers on new communications and word-of-mouth marketing. The companies will hold a joint Sept. 21 webinar on the topic. The first Edelman and Intelliseek white paper, Trust MEdia, underscored the importance of the blogging phenomenon for public relations and communications professionals and provided a first-of-its- kind client directory of influential bloggers, segmented by industry.

For information about the white paper or word-of-mouth marketing, contact Edelman at 312-240-2822 or Intelliseek at 513-618-6700.
